Some like it Hot . . . If you are thinking the same thing, roll on over to “Slow Burn” at Space City this Saturday, March 1st, for a sensual expression to view the “Sacredness in Eros”.

All the elemental forces are called upon: Earth, Air, Water, and of course, Fire.  Savor every performance and piece; each is a layer of kindling to the flames, gradually stoking the embers until we glow with the intensity of a Slow Burn.

Between 7:30 and 9:30, the event showcases a sexy, yet PG-13 rated, short 5-minute film that explores the feminine side of intimacy and exploration.  A local dance troupe puts on an inspiring live performance as well.  The event opens and closes with DJ dance sets from DJ JOULZ from 6-7:30 pm and IMAGIKA OM from 9:30-11 pm.

To foster a safe space and container, this event is only for 21+, no children/pets, and no alcohol or intoxication allowed.  Tickets are $25.  Space City is located at 14-3761 Kapoho Rd. near Lava Tree State Park.

Up next, we have a Special Surprise, a hot and heavy Kaimu night lined up with Grammy award winning artist Black Uhuru playing a Sunday night set on March 2nd, with our local superstars the Kalapana Awa Band opening down at Uncle Roberts in Kalapana.

Uhuru means “Freedom” in Swahili, and these rockers have been showing us that way for the last 43 years – with their deep desire to “Put It On”, as Bob Marley might say (the only reggae artist to sell more albums than these fellas).

Vibes will be high as the drum and bass ambassadors of reggae strut and showcase their stuff.  Tickets are $40.  Doors open at 6 pm. Showtime is 8 pm – not a show to be fashionably late!

Flash forward to the following weekend, Saturday, March 8th, from 10 am – 1 pm, where regenerative agricultural visionary Gary Rosenberg gives a free tour of his Eden Farms in Kurtistown.  The land was the site of a former sugar plantation that devastated the soil and now is teeming with life.

His dream is for humans and animals to create a more symbiotic and sustainable farming partnership.  For 30 years, he has been developing free-range animal husbandry techniques, rarely using restraints to control his animals.  Fences are eventually used to close off areas that have been tilled and fertilized by various herds and now are ready for growing foods.

Located on S Road off of N Ala Rd; specific directions are provided after registration. you can register through this link:

The final spotlight for March goes to Taste of Puna’s Traveling Artisan Village Festival, free from noon until 8 pm on Saturday, March 15th at the Hawaiian Shores Community Center, AKA “The Stables”.  The Taste of Puna’s vision is to hold as many locally crafted and created goods and artists under one single roof.  A locally cultivated culture is how we lessen our dependency on outside forces, stop importing so much from off-island, invest in our small businesses, and support our local community first- by recirculating the wealth.

Importantly, this Artisan Village has both speakers and live demonstrations to help us get there.  Learn more about bees, animals, mushrooms, and, most importantly, how our nonprofits get grants.  Examples of demos this time include honeycomb squeezing, flute and professional hat making, freeze drying food, and incorporating wild mushrooms and plants into a healthy lifestyle.  Of course there will be dank food and music, with one of the funnest and most danceable bands “Kascadence” jamming out from 5-8 pm. These last 2 events are part of Puna Rising’s ongoing “A Moveable Feast”, and their online calendar of different happenings can be found at the following link:

Aero grew up in a log cabin in the thick Wisconsin woods and has never been able to shake the Wilderness from his Soul.

A decades-long forager and wildcrafter, from Portland to Arcata to San Francisco, he supplied many grocery stores, restaurants, & farmers’ markets with gourmet mushrooms.

In the last decade, medicinal mushrooms and plants such as reishi, chaga, and lion's mane have taken a focal point in his life for his healing process, so he started Old Growth Organics, as he continually refines and creates some of the cleanest and most potent medicinal mushroom and la’au lapa’au products around.  Find him at the farmers market just giving away the best Chaga Chai you have ever tried.

20-year master gardener, blue ribbon flower grower, with the knowledge to create diverse & specific compost teas.  Highly attuned to the Moon and Elementals, he used his visionary artist skills to channel a new Planetary Moon Calendar, amongst other agricultural inventions. Here in Hawai'i, he has spent time as a teacher and permaculture facilitator at the Hawaiian Sanctuary.

Long-term volunteer of many issues of social justice, family and human rights, environmental rights, indigenous rights, food sovereignty, and community solidarity- here to continue the mission of bringing health & happiness to the world – starting with the Ohana gathered here.

Only eight years here in Puna so far, but here to stay, the love of Malama Aina has touched the core of his being, along with the Spirit of Aloha.  600 coconut trees deep, he prefers to spend his free time planting food forests for the future.
