Father & son Earl and Jason Bladh opened DJ’s Pizza & Wings on February 3, 2023. Jason flew to Pahoa to visit his dad who had relocated here last year. When the two discovered that the old New York Pizza spot was vacant, they jumped at the opportunity to open up their first family-run pizza establishment. Jason had been working in San Diego as a chef in Italian restaurants for years, and it had been his lifelong dream to open up his own restaurant. DJ’s Pizza & Wings first opened their doors for business on February 3, 2023.

Chef Jason has mastered the art of the chicken wing. The wings are twice baked, which means they are cooked, tossed in sauce, put back in the oven, then tossed in sauce again – resulting in a crispy, tender chicken wing with a nice barbeque char flavor. Choose from one of their homemade sauces or dry rubs. Among the most popular sauces are buffalo, spicy Thai peanut sauce, and garlic & mango habanero. Or try a dry rub such as lemon pepper, buffalo dry rub, or chipotle garlic. You can’t go wrong with any of their wing flavors.
Their pizza dough recipe is based on a flatbread formula utilizing honey instead of sugar. The pizzas are cooked in a hot stone oven. The resulting crust is crispy, chewy & soft. Chef recommends you try their jalapeno honey bbq pizza, which Jason described as more sweet than spicy, is made with chunks of jalapenos, smoked gouda, mozzarella, chicken, onion, and cilantro. The buffalo pizza, a crowd favorite, is made with gorgonzola cheese which brings on a decadent flavor element.

The house salad comes with fresh cucumbers, tomatoes, carrots, and sunflower seeds on spring mix greens, with your choice of a homemade salad dressing. All of DJ’s sauces are made in-house using fresh ingredients. To all the ranch lovers out there, their homemade ranch is out-of-this-world delicious (personally, it’s the best ranch sauce I’ve ever tasted, but good luck obtaining their secret recipe!). When you visit DJ’s, be sure to also check out the beautiful mural work on the front of the store, which Jason’s mom and sister flew in from Utah to paint.
