A traditionally Superb Hawaiian Music Venue was graced with old-fashioned Rock ‘n Roll! The first night Thursday had all my favorite local bands especially Jaris Dreaming “Peace Tribe” with their own following of local dancing hippies. It was a joyful set with original lyrics expressing basically “Love is All There Is!”
Followed by the international quintessential Troubadour Fantuzzi with the “Flexible Band” performing his usual mix of Reggae, World Beat & New Age-themed lyrics. The set closed with a look-alike Jimi Hendrix guitar player whose electricity got the place jumping & people appeared from out of the lava to groove. Friday & Saturday nights also had congenial attendance which Sam commented on by saying: “All nights had good Vibes!”
Hawaiian Sanctuary on Friday, May 13 had the gracious Mary Motherwell greeting attendees at the main gate with a beautiful smile making everyone feel welcome. The Sound Healing with Tibetan Bowls & other esoteric instruments in Grow Room kept the meditative vibe flowing musically throughout the room. Techno music followed for which I can’t give an honest review since it is my least favorite music. The ambiance was hard to beat with mats to stretch out on, do Yoga or massage with a great dance floor & healthy refreshments including cacao treats grown on the land. WoW!
Sunday afternoon I made it to Sundari Gardens, a conscious community in Kalapana featuring “BlessFest” the whole weekend. A festival devoted to the celebration, chant, Kirtan, world music, song, Yoga, dance, health, storytelling, poetry & more. Afterward, I participated in “Universal Dances of Peace ” joyfully led by Merlady. The rest of the afternoon was a potpourri of “Celestial Singing” with master song leaders, Shiloh, Daniel & Joshua taking us on an ecstatic journey and joining our hearts in musical resonance. The festival closed with a traditional Hawaiian blessing led by Kumu Ehulani Stephany: chanting, honoring our elders & a physical remembrance of what we received that weekend by selecting leaves from a sacred Hawaiian plant, thus completing a spiritual closure for our holistic, heartfelt gathering. Thank-you Kumu!
